Creating a thriving garden in the heart of Battambang, Cambodia, brings a unique sense of peace and "Plant Joy" to the workday. Our office garden has become a sanctuary for several stunning species that love the Cambodian climate. Here is a deep dive into the three stars of our collection: the Purple Shamrock, the Firecracker Flower, and the Spiky Moss.

1. The "Butterfly" of the Garden: Purple Shamrock (Oxalis triangularis)

This is perhaps the most talked-about plant in our office. Native to Brazil, its deep purple, triangular leaves resemble a cluster of butterflies resting on thin, elegant stems.

  • The Sleep Movement: The most fascinating feature is nyctinasty. During the day, the leaves open wide to catch the sun, but at night, they fold down tightly to "sleep".

  • Delicate Blooms: It produces clusters of tiny, pale pink or white trumpet-shaped flowers that contrast beautifully against the dark foliage.

  • Battambang Care: It thrives in our local warmth but needs protection from the harsh midday sun to prevent leaf scorch. We water it only when the top inch of soil is dry.

2. The Vibrant Firecracker Flower (Crossandra)

For a splash of bold color, nothing beats the Crossandra. Its bright orange blooms add an instant tropical feel to the workspace.

  • Non-Stop Color: In a warm climate like ours, these flowers can bloom almost all year round.

  • Glossy Greenery: Beyond the flowers, the plant has beautiful, shiny, dark green leaves that stay vibrant even when the plant isn't blooming.

  • Battambang Care: It loves the humidity of Cambodia and prefers a spot with bright light to keep those orange "firecrackers" popping.

3. The Ancient Spiky Moss (Selaginella)

Nestled in a white pot, our Selaginella (often called Spiky Moss or Peacock Fern) is a living piece of history. It isn't a true moss or fern, but a "lycophyte"—a lineage of plants that has existed for millions of years.

  • Lacy Texture: Its fan-like, bright green fronds create a soft, carpet-like texture that is very relaxing to look at during a busy work day.

  • The Humidity Specialist: This plant is the ultimate humidity lover. It helps keep the air feeling fresh, but it is sensitive to drying out.

  • Battambang Care: Because it is very sensitive to heat, we keep it in full shade and ensure the soil stays consistently moist.

Why an Office Garden in Cambodia?

Growing these plants at our office in Battambang isn't just about decoration; it’s about connection. Watching the Oxalis "wake up" in the morning as we start our work and seeing the Crossandra brighten a rainy afternoon brings a genuine sense of well-being to the entire team.
